Blaine E. Todd, 79

Blaine E. Todd, 79, Salem, N.J., passed away Monday, April 4, 2011, at the Memorial Hospital of Salem County.

He was born in 1932 in Punxsutawney, a son of the late John and Edna (Lingenfelter) Todd.

He was the fifth child of three brothers and four sisters.

In 1951, Mr. Todd graduated from Punxsutawney High School and began a two year stint in the U.S. Army, where he served a 16-month tour in Korea.

In 1953, he was the Fort Worth Golden Gloves Boxing Champion.
Following his service in the military, Mr. Todd returned to Pennsylvania and worked as a brakeman on the B&O Railroad for eight years. While he was working on the railroad, he attended Clarion State College in Clarion, where he played two years of varsity football.

Upon graduating from college in 1961, Mr. Todd began teaching science in Salem High School, N.J., where he taught for 32 years retiring in 1993.
He also taught health and English, coached football and wrestling and was class advisor to the classes of 1971 and 1978.

He earned an MA from Franklin and Marshall in 1971 and an administrative certificate in 1976.

Mr. Todd served on City Council and the City Planning Board. He was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church and a past Master and Third Degree Mason of Penns Grove Excelsior Lodge No. 54 F&AM.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Henry) Todd; two sons, Douglas and Eric; three sisters; a brother; two grandsons, Ian and Seth Todd; and a great-grandson, Drake Todd.

Services were held Friday, April 8, 2011.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Woodside Funeral Home, Salem, N.J.

Interment will be at Lawnside Cemetery, Pilesgrove, N.J.
