Betty A. Shirley, 86, of Punxsutawney, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at McKinley Health Center in Brookville.

Mrs. Shirley was born Nov. 3, 1926, in Walston, a daughter of the late Gustave W. Burkholtz and Lula Mae (Salsgiver) Burkholtz.

She was married to Ronald E. Shirley, who survives, of Punxsutawney.

Mrs. Shirley was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church.

She worked many years at Loree Footwear before retiring.

She was a member of the Punxsutawney Senior Center and former president of the Grandmothers’ Club.

In addition to her husband, Ronald, surviving relatives include two sons, Larry Shaffer and wife Carol of Van, Pa., and John Shaffer and wife Pat of Rossiter; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Thompson officiating.

Interment is private for family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Shirley's name to the McKinley Health Center.
