Betty June Baughman, 90

Betty June Baughman, 90, of Summerville, Pa., passed away at the Brookville Hospital on Friday, March 8, 2013.

She was born on July 26, 1922, in New Bethlehem, a daughter of the late Glenn Sr. and Dora (Hockenberry) Hess of New Bethlehem, Pa.

Betty was an honors graduate of New Bethlehem High School, Class of 1940.

In her teen years, she was a drummer for the "Tune Twisters" who played throughout the New Bethlehem area.

She served as Inspector of Elections on the Beaver Township Election Board for many years.

She also belonged to the Brookville Area Senior Citizens’ Club and attended many covered dish dinners at The Heritage House.

She married James Hiram Baughman on Oct. 26, 1942.

She was a devoted housewife who attended the Ohl United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, William Glenn (Patricia) Baughman of New Cumberland, Pa.; two daughters, Betty Ann McKinstry of Ohl and Barbara Jean Baughman of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; a brother, Glenn Leslie Hess Jr. of Liberty, N.C.; an aunt, Ethel I. Hockenberry of Brookville; and two grandchildren, Allison McKinstry of Erie, Pa., and Peter Baughman of Santa Clara, Calif.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Thomas Baughman; and a sister, Patricia Ann (Hess) Allshouse.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Furlong Funeral Home, located at the corner of Broad Street and First Avenue in Summerville.

A funeral service to celebrate Betty's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013, at the funeral home with the Rev. John Swanger officiating.

Interment will be at the Ohl Cemetery in Beaver Township, Jefferson County.

The family has requested memorial donations be made to the Summerville
Ambulance Association.
