Betty Jane Snyder, 75

May 8, 2014

Betty Jane Snyder, 75, went home to be with her Lord on Friday morning, April 11, 2014, at her home in Hamilton, Pa.

Betty was born Jan., 11, 1939, a daughter of the late Joseph and Elma (Newcome) Bish in Coolspring, Pa.

She was married on May 21, 1960, to Verner Snyder, who preceded her in
death.

Betty is survived by one brother, Richard Bish of DuBois; a daughter, Amy Murphy, and son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Leslie (Lyle) Snyder of Hamilton; and grandchildren Sara Murphy and Becky and Joey Snyder of Hamilton.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by brothers Elmer and John Bish and sisters Doris Smith, Mary Ishman and Beverly Joann DeLarme.

Betty was a proud Army wife, traveling with her husband and two children to California, Japan, Virginia and Germany before settling in Hamilton in 1976.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star while in Germany.

Betty worked in the housekeeping department at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital, retiring in 2001 following 23 years of service.

She was a member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church and regularly attended the retired hospital employee luncheons.

Her generous heart filled her home with love, fun, family and friends, including an attitude that there was always room for one more.

She leaves her children and grandchildren with the knowledge that they were truly loved and they know that she loved the Lord.

Friends will be received from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Shumaker Funeral Home in Punxsutawney, with a memorial service to follow.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Snyder’s name to Punxsutawney Area Hospital or to Hamilton United Methodist Church.

Online condolences may be made at www.shumakerfh.com.
