Betty Jane Hinkle, 94

Betty Jane Hinkle, 94, Punxsutawney, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

Betty was born in Butler County on Oct. 2, 1919, the daughter of Gertrude (Clark) and Clifford Heeter.

On Oct. 31, 1940, she married William J. Hinkle of Punxsutawney. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1988.

She graduated as valedictorian in 1935 from Ss. Cosmas and Damian High School.

She retired from the B&O Railroad as a weigh master clerk after 40 years of service.

Betty was known for being sharply dressed and enjoyed laughter. She loved shopping. She attended weekly Bingo at SS.C.D. for many years and liked to travel to Atlantic City and Seneca for gambling trips.

She was a selfless person who was very devoted to her children and grandchildren.

Betty is survived by a son, William (Dennis) Hinkle of Punxsutawney; four daughters, Paula Corbin and husband Paul of Reynoldsville, Betsy Manners and husband Sid of Reynoldsville, Mary Urias of Virginia, and Jane Cappella and husband Mike of Punxsutawney; and a daughter-in-law, Ruthie Hinkle of Worthville.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special nephew, Thomas Heeter and his wife, Betsy, of Punxsutawney.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John Hinkle in 2010; an infant brother, John; three sisters, Ethel Farrell, Doris Craft, and Helen Simpson; and an infant great-grandson, Dominic.

Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2014, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at SS.C.D., with Monsignor Joseph Riccardo officiating.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers and memorials, donation in Betty’s memory be sent to Ss. Cosmas and Damian School.
