Betty J. Smith, 89, of Grove City, formerly of La Jose, passed away
Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Orchard Manor in Grove City.

Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 22, 1924, in La Jose, a daughter of the late Henry and Daisy (McMaster) Michael.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Smith, on Jan. 21, 2007.

She was a member of the Grove City CMA Church.

Betty was known by everyone as a friend and prayer warrior.

Her interests were other people, which was cross generational.

She was a woman who chose to speak words of encouragement rather than criticism.

She was a supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Boys Town, Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Salvation Army.

She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn LaFountain and husband the Rev.
Richard LaFountain; one brother, Harold Michael of Florida; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, William, she was preceded in death by a son, William Eugene Smith; one brother, Clair Michael; and one sister, Helen Smith.

Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Waldron Funeral Home in Mahaffey.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at the funeral home with the Rev. Ed Dixon officiating.

Interment will follow at La Jose Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. Smith's name to the Grove City CMA Church, 845 North Liberty Rd., Grove City, PA 16127.
