Bertha A. (Kauffman) Hoffman, 84, Erie, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Pleasant Ridge Manor East.

She was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Clearfield County, a daughter of the late Henry and Catherine (Lee) Kauffman.

She was married to James W. Hoffman, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hoffman was an 11-year resident of Erie and enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. She lived in Punxsutawney for more than 30 years.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Cheryl Phillips of Erie and Gale Judy and husband Robert of Wilkes-Barre; four brothers, Philip Kauffman of Alabama, Gene Kauffman and wife Eleanor, Donald Kauffman and wife Mary Jane, and Larry Kauffman and wife Lois, all of Pennsylvania; six sisters, Ruby Geist of Ohio, Shirley Blanton and husband Dawson of South Carolina, Patsy DeHaven and husband Dave of Maryland, Joyce Heberling and husband Dave of Ohio, and June Wolfe and Diane Johnston, both of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandson.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton J. Kauffman and Robert Kauffman; and a sister, Isabel McKee.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012,
at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th and Liberty Street, Erie.

A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at the funeral home.

Interment will be private.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
