Bertha A. Henery, 94

Bertha A. Henery, 94, Sykesville, died Saturday, July 9, 2011, at East Park Care Center, Ohio, following a lengthy illness.

She was born Feb. 2, 1917, in Curwensville, a daughter of the late George and Maria (Wellgus) Mayersky.

Dec. 31, 1945, she married Raymond "Jim" Henery, who preceded her in death in 2007. They were married for more than 60 years.

Mrs. Henery was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Sykesville. She was a volunteer at the DuBois Red Cross for 16 years.

Mrs. Henery was a graduate of Curwensville High School. After graduation, she worked as a cashier for American Stores and was then promoted to manager of American Stores in Reynoldsville.

She later worked at Sylvania in Brookville for 14 years, and in the Sykesville School cafeterias for 16 years.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Helen Volansky and husband Thomas of Cleveland, Ohio; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, George Jr., Joseph and Edward; and two sisters, Helen Kulina and baby sister Mary Ann.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home, Sykesville.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Sykesville with Fr. Richard Allen officiating.

Interment will follow at the ABVM Catholic Cemetery.
