Barbara Ellen Kotula, 92

Barbara Ellen Kotula, 92, Lucerne Mines, died Saturday, May 28, 2011, at St. Andrew’s Village. 

She was born Sept. 4, 1918, in Eleanora, the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Annie (Lewis) Collins.

She was married to Theodore F. Kotula Sr., who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Kotula was a member of St. Mary’s Holy Protection Byzantine Catholic Church, Homer City, where she was very active in the Ladies’ Guild. 

She was also a 1936 graduate of Punxsutawney High School and a member of the Greek Catholic Union, Lodge No. 62, Punxsutawney.

Mrs. Kotula (Barbie-Ellen) enjoyed being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all loved to visit and enjoy her nut rolls, pirohi and pagach.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Carole Parker of Beaufort, S.C., and Barbara Gravel and husband Joseph of North Reading, Mass.; two sons, R. Robert Kotula and wife Beatrice of Indiana and Richard of Lucerne Mines; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Strini Kotula of Gettysburg; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Theodore Jr. and James; one grandson, Timothy F. Kotula; three sisters, Margaret Mortimer, Mayme Calhoun and Josephine Kotula; and two brothers, Robert O. Collins and Thomas J. Collins.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, Homer City, where a Parastas Service will be held. 

A Panachida Service will be held at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Holy Protection Byzantine Catholic Church, Homer City, with Fr. Cuthbert Jack officiating. 

Interment will follow at the Ss. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
