Astorino to be inducted into the Punxsutawney Sports Hall of Fame.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Gary Astorino, a 1976 graduate of PAHS, is among the six inductees into the Punxsutawney Sports Hall of Fame.
During his high school career, Astorino was a three-year letterman/starter and captain in wrestling, football and senior legion baseball. He was a four-year starter in wrestling for Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and was captain during his junior and senior years.
He was on the top 10 win list at EUP and a four-year National Qualifier and PSAC place winner. He received the John “Butch” McBride Athletic Scholarship award to the EUP athlete exhibiting outstanding achievement in a varsity sport and high academic performance.
Astorino has been a wrestling coach at EUP for 23 years.
He is married to Dr. Terri Astorino, professor of nursing at Edinboro, and they are the parents of three children, Drew, Lauren and Matt.
Astorino is currently a senior guidance counselor at General McLane high School in Edinboro.
The Punxsutawney Sports Hall of Fame’s 11th induction banquet will be held at 6 p.m. next Saturday in the Punxsutawney High School Cafeteria.
Other inductees are Dominic Barilar, Roger Raybuck, William Vassallo, George Work and Bruce Chambers, who will be a posthumous inductee.
The keynote speaker for the evening will be Les Shoop.
