Arthur James Whitesell, 80

Arthur James Whitesell, 80, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born March 23, 1931, in Grange, a son of the late Floyd M. and Fannie L. (Gaston) Whitesell.

Nov. 16, 1957, he married the former Bessie I. Horner, who preceded him in death Sept. 7, 1998.

Mr. Whitesell served as a corporal in the U.S. Army with the 8th Army Headquarters in Seoul, Korea, from 1952 to 1954.

He was a member of the Grange Church of God.

Mr. Whitesell worked and retired as a mailman from the U.S. Postal Service.

He was a member of the Eagles and the Walston Club.

He loved to hunt, fish, play cards, and he especially enjoyed playing pool at the senior centers in Punxsutawney, Reynoldsville and Brockway.

Surviving relatives include a son, James E. Whitesell; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Shumaker Funeral Home Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at the funeral home co-officiated by Pastors Janis Bracken and Johnny Pennington. 

Military honors will be accorded by the Jefferson County Veterans' Honor Guard.

Interment will follow at Barton Chapel Cemetery in Sprankle Mills.

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Whitesell's memory to the Grange Church of God.
