Antoinette (Belott) Astorino, 88

Antoinette (Belott) Astorino, 88, a lifelong resident of Walston, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center, Punxsutawney.

She was born Oct. 12, 1923, a daughter of the late Samuel and Rachel (Bianco) Belott.

June 6, 1946, she married Ross Astorino, also a lifelong resident of Walston, who preceded her in death Nov. 13, 2001, ending a union of 55 years.

Mrs. Astorino graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1941. She was employed by Jordan’s Furniture Store, which required a daily walk from Walston to Punxsy.

She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church and the St. Anthony’s Altar Rosary Society.

After raising six children, she was employed for 17 years by Astorino’s Restaurant as master chef for Blue Tavern pizza and its Italian cuisine.

She passionately continued long-standing family traditions while also creating many unique new ones. Her family will always remember her as their teacher, doctor, Italian chef, cake-maker, poet, comedienne and their biggest cheerleader.

Surviving relatives include two sons, John Astorino and wife Marge of Franklin, and Ron Astorino and wife Doreen of DuBois; four daughters, Margie Astorino of Walston, Janet Marchioni and husband Louis of Mechanicsburg, MaryLou Astorino and husband Andrew Fedore of Johnstown, and Jeannie Astorino and husband Bo Smith of Cochranville; her sister and best friend, Marie Farcus of Walston; nine grandchildren, Holly Ghering and husband John, Jennifer Galey and husband Steve, Susan Byers and husband Mark, Joseph Astorino, Michael Astorino, Seth Astorino, Jordan Astorino and wife Olivia, ToniMarie Marchioni and Max Fedore; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Gagliardi; a brother, Peter J. Belott; and two infant granddaughters.

Friends will be received at from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at St. Anthony Church in Walston with the Rev. Msgr. Joseph Riccardo as celebrant.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
