Anthony J. “Tony” Villella, 90, Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born Jan. 13, 1924, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Frank and Raphael (Serian) Villella.

On April 19, 1948, he married Loretta Ann (Taczak) Villella, who preceded him in death on May 5, 2001.

He was a member of SS.C.D. Church and a graduate of the Punxsutawney High School Class of 1942.

He was an avid bowler and a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served on the USS White Plains in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines.

He was a member of the F.O.E. Eagles, Army and Navy Club and Italian Lodge and a former Borough Councilman.

Surviving relatives include three children, Barbara Ann Dillon and husband Michael of McHenry, Ill., Kenneth J. Villella and wife Sally of Punxsutawney and David A. Villella and wife Theresa of Erie; nine grandchildren, Chad Villella, Toni Villella and fiancé Jon Niles, Angie Zawistowski and husband Billy, Mary Ann Smith and husband Eric, Julie Villella, Joey Villella, Gina Villella, Michael Dillon and wife Sue, and Sean Dillon and wife Beth; seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Katie, Erin and Megan Dillon, Aubrey and Addison Zawistowski and Calliope Smith.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, seven brothers, James, Napoleon, Larry, Sam, Frank, Joe and Pete Villella; and six sisters, Angelene Yenzi, Mary Vescio, Rose Gualtieri, Victoria McFetridge, Margaret Duganier and Freda Villella.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., today at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at SS.C.D. Roman Catholic Church, with Monsignor Joseph Riccardo officiating.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
