Anthony Cipolla, 85

January 2, 2013

Anthony Cipolla, 85, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, N.Y.

Born in Dayton, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph and Christine (Altimore) Cipolla. Anthony attended schools in both Rossiter and Punxsutawney.

Afterwards, he served in the United States Army from Jan. 9, 1946, until his honorable discharge on June 20, 1947, and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and Japanese Occupation Medal.

Following his discharge from the Army, Anthony moved to the Niagara Falls area, and in 1957 married Jo-Anne (Polin) Cipolla at the former Sacred Heart Church.

For 38 years, Anthony was employed at Union Carbide in Niagara Falls, and retired as a supervisor in 1983. He later worked as a Security Officer at Niagara University until the late 1990s.

Anthony was an avid gardener and enjoyed sports, bicycling and walking.

He also enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida with his wife Jo-Anne to visit his sisters and brother, but most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren.

All throughout his life, Anthony was most proud of his family, including his mother, father, sisters, brothers, wife and, most of all, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His great love for them would shine in his beautiful green eyes. He will always be in their hearts.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, Mr. Cipolla is survived by his three children, Joseph (Judy) Cipolla, John (Esther) Cipolla and Krista-Anne (James) Greig all of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Mettler, Joshua Cipolla, Vincent Cipolla, Anthony Greig and Angelo Greig; one great-grandson, Michael Mettler; seven brothers and sisters, Angela Cipolla, Dolores (Ed) Mayo both of Florida, Rose Cipolla of Punxsutawney, Gloria (late James) Cook, Dominic (Linda) Cipolla both of Florida, Joseph (Lou Ellen) Cipolla of Punxsutawney and Patricia (Tito) Marino of Pennsylvania; his sisters-in-law, Maureen Polin and Olivia Polin; as well as several nieces, nephews, his dear cousin Elaine (Richard) Morreale-Rizzo and special neighbors.

Visitation was held on Sunday, Dec. 30 at M.J. Colucci and Son Niagara Funeral Chapel in Niagara Falls, N.Y., where funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vincent DePaul Parish at St. Leo’s Church in Niagara Falls, with Rev. Andrew Lauricella officiating.

Interment with Military Honors was held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, N.Y.
