Anthony Carmen Tersine, 98

Anthony Carmen Tersine, 98, of Walston, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born Oct. 27, 1914, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Peter and Louise (DeFloria) Tersine.

He was a member of Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church in Walston.

On Nov, 6, 1943, he married the former Goldie Elizabeth Stuchell.

She preceded him in death on March 27, 1994.

Tony enjoyed gardening, watching Western movies and going grocery shopping.

He was a life member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Punxsutawney.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Anthony G. Tersine Sr. and wife Mable of Punxsutawney and James T. Tersine and wife Jacqueline of Indiana; five grandchildren, Diane Burkett and husband Homer of Punxsutawney, Melissa Smith of Homer City, Tina Stutz and husband Bob of Homer City, Anthony Tersine Jr. and wife Robin of Springfield, Va., and Peter Tersine of Punxsutawney; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Gudalis of DuBois.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael, Joseph and George Tersine; and three sisters, Mary Costanzo, Elizabeth Tersine and Lucy Vida.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church officiated by Monsignor Joseph Riccardo.

Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of his wife, Goldie.
