Anna Ruth Young, 88, of Punxsutawney, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at home.

She married Eugene Mercer, who preceded her in death on June 1, 1974.

She became the wife of Joe J. Young, who preceded her in death on June 5, 2002.

Anna enjoyed spending time with her family, playing Bingo and crocheting, and she had previously enjoyed fishing with her husband.

Mrs. Young was a Pen Pal to many people — for more than 30 years to some — and she enjoyed the correspondence and friendships that resulted from taking the time to write letters.

Surviving relatives include six children, Don Mercer and Brenda Mooney of Brockway, Allen Young and wife Donna of Big Run, William Young and wife Gina of Punxsutawney, Marie Graff and husband Ray of Tonawanda, N.Y., Robin Wyarzniak and husband Carl of Lackawanda, N.Y., and Edith Young of Punxsutawney; many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters, John Waltman and wife Ladie, Ralph Waltman and wife Charlene, Bob Waltman and wife Doreen, George Waltman and wife Vicki, Dave Waltman and wife Vicki, Ruby Marie Bishop, Anna Mae Pierce and husband Jerry, and Carol Wells and husband Ted.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Tom and Ken Mercer, Joe Young, Jr.; and a sister, Eleanor Metzinger.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, and Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at the funeral home, with Pastor Dawn Krishart officiating.
