Anna Kathryn Blayer, 84, Tecumseh, Mich., formerly of Ann Arbor, Mich., passed away Monday, May 7, 2012, surrounded by her family.

She was born Feb. 7, 1928, in Adrian, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Brudnock) Midock.

May 7, 1955, in Punxsutawney, she married John Richard Blayer, who preceded her in death after 47 years of marriage.

In 1955, the couple moved to Ann Arbor, where Mr. and Mrs. Blayer began their family.

Mrs. Blayer worked for almost 20 years at John Allen Elementary School in Ann Arbor, where she helped countless children in her role as a lunch and playground aide.

She was a devout Catholic and a long-time member of St. Francis of Assisi Church before moving to Tecumseh and joining the congregation at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.

Mrs. Blayer enjoyed traveling to see relatives, cooking, collecting her treasured porcelain dolls, Norman Rockwell prints, miniature home and famous buildings and other collectables. She also enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren compete in various sporting events.

The Blayers especially liked going on senior trips with their close friends and just sitting on the front porch socializing with neighbors.

Surviving relatives include three children, Deb Umstead and husband Bob of Clifton Forge, Va., Jack Blayer and wife Jill of Tecumseh, and Steve Blayer and wife Ronda of Grand Ledge, Mich.; 15 grandchildren, Knic, Becca, Katie, Ben, Mary and Ally Umstead, Brooke, Levi, Abby, Lucas, Aldren and DeAndre Blayer, and Kacie Arsenault and husband Stephen, and Brett and Erin Blayer; three great-grandchildren, Chase and Tobyann Windsor and Millie Connor; her siblings, Alex Midock, Pete Midock and wife Delores, Mary Brink, and Olga Cook and husband Vern; four sisters-in-law, Helen Dowling, Anna Blayer, Georgette Blayer and Dorothy Blayer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Midock and Elizabeth Petroff; and a brother, George Midock.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 11, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home.

A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Daniel Wheeler as celebrant.

Mrs. Blayer will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Interment will be at 3 p.m. at St. Patrick Cemetery in Whitmore Lake.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tecumseh Place.
