Angelo R. Strano, Jr., 93, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Mulberry Square.
He was born Sept. 18, 1919, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Angelo Strano, Sr., and Josephine (Polito) Strano.
On Aug. 7, 1943, he married Sophia (Moskowski) Strano, who survives.
He passed away on her 90th birthday.
He was a member of Saints Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church of Punxsutawney.
He was a member of the Walston Club, Eagles, Elks, VFW and the American Legion.
He spent his entire life in Punxsutawney except for four years of service in the Air Force, when he was stationed at Ft. Jackson in South Carolina.
He graduated from S.S.C.D. High School in 1937 and sang in the choir from fifth grade throughout high school.
He also sang Latin solos during high school.
He was active in Little League baseball, bowling and all sports, and he managed the 1950 state championship Little League baseball team.
In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include two sons, Richard â€śDickâ€ť Strano and wife Joan of Hutchinson, Kan., and Robert â€śBobâ€ť Strano and wife Tamra of Mont Belview, Texas; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Andrew Strano; two sisters, Nina Nase and Mary
Altheide; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, James, Joseph, Samuel, infant Pete and infant Richard Strano; and three sisters, Pauline Ferraro, Nikki Kliber and Connie Bango.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at S.S.C.D., with Monsignor Joseph Riccardo officiating.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in Mr. Stranoâ€™s memory, to S.S.C.D. School or to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Little League.
