Alfred “Bus” Spangler, 85

Alfred “Bus” Spangler, 85, Brookville, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

He was born Dec.13, 1925, in Ohl, Jefferson County, a son of the late Haven and Maggie (Smith) Spangler.

July 1, 1971, in Shannondale, he married Dorothy J. Hetrick, who survives.
Mr. Spangler was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post 102 and VFW Post 204, all of Brookville.

He was a laborer at Glen Gery Brick Plant (the former Hanley Brick Plant) in Summerville.

Mr. Spangler was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, Co. F 330th Inf. 83rd Div.  European African Middle Eastern Theaters, during World War II. He received a Purple Heart for wounds he received in the Battle of Ardennes in the European Theater.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include a daughter, Susan Haney of Brookville; a brother, James Spangler of Erie; a sister, Elva Spangler of  Brookville; two grandsons, Nathan and Zachary Haney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Spangler, Esther Phillips and Marti Reitz; and two brothers, Mervin and Jennings Spangler.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the McKinney Funeral Home, Brookville.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at the funeral home with the Rev. Timothy Spence officiating. Military honors will be accorded during the service.

Interment will be at Ohl Cemetery in Beaver Township.
