Alan R. Rowland, 57, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at his home.

He was born March 15, 1955, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Dalvin R. and B. Jane (Shirley) Rowland.

He was married to Denise (Budihas) Rowland, who survives.

Mr. Rowland was a graduate of Williamsport Community College and was a machinist and welder by trade.

He was an avid outdoorsman and a talented gunsmith.

He was a member of the Punxsutawney Alliance Church.

In 1975, Mr. Rowland was a recipient of the Carnegie Hero Award.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include two daughters, Dana Williams and husband Shawn of Hughesville, and Leslie Rowland and friend Eric Weiser of Shippenville; a son, Matthew Rowland of Punxsutawney; three grandchildren, Cameryn and Brynlee Williams of Hughesville and Maylin Weiser of Shippenville; a sister, Karen Harshman of Punxsutawney; and an aunt and uncle, Ruth and Jim Shirley of Florida.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Richard L. Fait Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the Punxsutawney Alliance Church with Pastor John Buchmann officiating.

The family suggests that donations be made to the Punxsutawney Alliance Church, 1307 South Main St., Punxsutawney, Pa. 15767, or to Punxsutawney Area Hospital, 81 Hillcrest Dr., Punxsutawney, Pa. 15767.
