ST. MARYS â€“ The Punxsy ninth-grade football team defeated St. Marys 35-22 on the road September 19.
Kaleb Young rushed through the Flying Dutch defense for three touchdowns to lead the Chucks. Young's three scoring runs covered 54, 39 and 19 yards.
Alex Young recorded his own long touchdown burst of 52 yards. Braxton Giavedoni ran 29 yards to paydirt and added the two-point conversion for the other score.
Quarterback Ryan Jones completed six of eight pass attempts for 80 yards.
"The offensive line played very well," commented Punxsy coach Rob Weaver.
Weaver also noted defensive lineman/offensive lineman Brandon Bennett having a solid effort in the contest.
Punxsy will next host Clarion on Wednesday, Oct. 3 in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Chucks 7th- & 8th-grade football tackle Warriors,
fall to Dutch
MONITEAU â€“ The seventh- and eighth-grade Punxsy football team split its recent pair of contests. The Chucks prevailed 19-6 over the Warriors of Moniteau after falling 30-8 at the Dutch of St. Marys.
On Wednesday afternoon, Punxsy's Jacob Weaver returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown for the early 6-0 lead.
Moniteau answered right back by driving down the field to tie the game 6-6, which it remained through three quarters.
The Chucks saw Devin Kelly take the handoff and go 25 yards to score and break the tie at 12-6 early in the fourth frame.
Punxsy added the game-clinching points later in the fourth quarter when Weaver caught a 51-yard scoring pass from Ethan Riley for what would be the 19-6 final.
"Riley made good throws in the game," noted Chucks coach Brad Constantino. "There were a lot of positives as we are getting better each game and the kids are working very hard."
Constantino also pointed out the play from both John Cerrian and Michael Lynn who were dominate up front along with Joey DiPetro and Kelly running the ball on offense hard.
At St. Marys, Punxsy fell 30-8. On the Chucks score, Riley ran eight yards for the touchdown on a quarterback keeper. Kelly rushed into the end zone for the two-point conversion.
Punxsy will host Clarion on Wednesday starting at 5 p.m. at LaMarca Stadium.View more articles in:
