9th-grade Chucks take third contest, defeat Raiders

December 17, 2012

BROOKVILLE — After holding a lead the entire game, the ninth-grade Chucks recorded their third-straight win of the week to defeat the Raiders, 43-36, in Brookville on Friday afternoon.

"It was a nice win and great effort," Punxsy head coach Todd Heigley said.

Dylan Huey finished with top honors for the visitors with 15 points and seven rebounds. Braxton Giavedoni also posted double digits in points with 11 to go with seven steals.

Brandon Douthit added eight points in the win. Tucker Jenary scored four points while Peyton Graham netted three points, and Nate Lingenfelter had a basket, respectively.

Punxsy ran out to a 13-4 lead over Brookville in the opening's frame. The home team came back to take the second quarter by a narrow margin, 14-12, for what would be a 25-18 intermission score.

The Raiders closed the margin even further in the third quarter to 29-27 on the strength of a 9-7 quarter.

The Chucks had enough in the end by winning the final quarter, 14-9, for the 43-36 final.

"We had too many turnovers, mental mistakes and became sloppy," added Heigley. "We need to keep building our confidence, get better in every practice and game."

The ninth-graders will return to action on Wednesday in their home opener against Altoona-White starting at 4 p.m.
