PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” After having various close contests this winter, the ninth-grade Chucks ended their season on a high note in the final game.
The season-ending victory gave Punxsy its 10th victory when it defeated Bradford, 45-30, on Friday in Punxsutawney.
After taking a 7-2 first quarter lead, the Chucks pulled away by nine points, 17-8, in the second period.
The quality second frame gave the home club a 24-10 halftime tally.
The two teams played evenly the second two periods, with Punxsy edging out a 21-20 margin.
â€śIt was a good win and a good way to finish the season,â€ť noted Chucksâ€™ head coach Todd Heigley. â€śThis was one of the best defensive efforts of the year.â€ť
Dylan Huey paced the ninth-graders with 11 points to go with three rebounds.
Keeston Perry produced nine tallies and grabbed three boards.
Peyton Graham chipped in eight points, three assists and a carom.
Braxton Giavedoni had a solid all-around affair. Giavedoni scored five points, stole three balls, handed out three assists and grabbed a pair of rebounds.
Nathan Ray was not far behind Giavedoni with his outing.
Ray added four points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Brock Wymer had two baskets for four points.
Center Brandon Douthit hauled in a team-high six rebounds while scoring a bucket.
Chris Stello and Brendon Stinson both hit a foul shot.
Kory States and Jacob Kunselman clutched a pair of rebounds.
â€śWe showed good patience offensively in the game but did take a few bad shots with a some turnovers,â€ť added Heigley. â€śWith the win, we were able to finish 10-9, and I know the kids would like a few of those close losses back.â€ťView more articles in:
