A three-vehicle accident occurred at 10:57 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Route 36 and Elderberry Hill Road in Bell Township and sent two people to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, Nikki L. Adams, 21, Punxsutawney, was driving a 2008 Jeep Patriot and allegedly failed to realize that traffic was stopped on the highway ahead.

As a result, police said she struck a 2008 Mazda G6 driven by Jeff L. Turner, 29, Mahaffey, in the rear bumper.

The impact of Adams’ vehicle and Turner's vehicle struck a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck driven by Lois J. Gomola, 52, Punxsutawney, who was waiting to make a left turn onto Elderberry Hill Road.

Police said Adams will be cited for following too close.

According to police, Turner and a 5-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries and were both transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for treatment.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Central Fire Department and Jefferson County EMS.
