‘Nuisance snow’ living up to its name in borough, county

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The wintry weather that we've experienced this year in Punxsutawney has become what is called nuisance snow.

Nuisance snow is an almost-daily event, during which one to two inches of snow will fall, requiring PennDOT, Punxsutawney Borough and other local municipalities to spend funds on treating streets and plowing snow.

Nuisance snow adds overtime hours to accomplish the task of keeping roadways cleared.

Ben White, Punxsutawney Borough manager, said at Monday's Public Works Committee meeting that the seemingly constant snow events have caused quite a drain on borough resources.
