Chucks wrestling honors seniors, downs Owls

The Punxsutawney Area High School wrestling team honored its seniors prior to Tuesday's match against Bradford — a match the Chucks won 53-18.

The Arizona Wildcats traveled to Tempe to face in state rival Arizona State for what they expected to be an easy game. Arizona State came into the game at the bottom of the PAC 12 at 3-6 in conference play. The Sun Devils came out firing as they shot 50% from the field (26/52) and 46.7% from 3 (7/15). Guard Bo Barnes paced the Sun Devils with 18 points including a perfect 8 for 8 from the charity stripe.

Chucks make big comeback to sting Stingers

Punxsy won the final six bouts in Thursday night's wrestling match at Marion Center to come from behind and pick up a 45-36 victory over the Stingers on their Senior Night in Marion Center.

Chucks fall just short at Hollidaysburg

Chucks off to a fast start with a victory by fall at Hollidaysburg, but in the end, Punxsy fell in a close match, 42-39.

Punxsy returns to the mat Thursday with another road contest — this time a bit closer, at Marion Center.

Thursday's schedule also includes the junior high basketball teams traveling to Ridgway, and the Lady Chucks playing at DuBois Area Middle School.

Lady Chucks down Lady Raiders with potent offense

The Lady Chucks earned a season sweep of the Brookville Lady Raiders on Tuesday with a 56-36 victory. Punxsy’s offense was firing on all cylinders, with three players — including Nicole DiPietro (pictured here), Jensen Constantino and Hope Bridge — reaching double digits, and the points coming from the inside and outside.

All PAHS teams are idle today, but Wrestling will host St. Marys on Thursday, when junior high boys' basketball will also host Ridgway.

Lady Chucks defend home court on Defend Against Cancer Night

On Defend Against Cancer Night at PAHS, the Lady Chucks turned up the defensive pressure to match the evening’s theme en route to a 57-39 victory over DuBois.

Pictured here, Alyssa Reitz (right) and Hope Bridge clamp down on the defensive end in the paint as Anna Horner (back, right) looks to help.

Bridge also had a big night offensively, scoring 22 points.

The Lady Chucks and Chucks basketball teams, in addition to the wrestling squad, were all in action on Tuesday night in Punxsutawney. Unfortunately for Punxsy, all three fell to their opponents.

Route 36 Rivalry Revival!

On Monday night, Ethan Riley (pictured here firing up a shot over Brookville's Jordan Tosh) and John Matthews each scored 12 points to help lead the Chucks past the Brookville Raiders to earn a 50-37 victory and a boys' basketball sweep in the Route 36 Rivalry this season.
