With a 2-0 lead with about three minutes left in the first half, Hughes looked over and said, "See, this is exactly what we were looking for."

Lady Chucks buy in to keep program successful

October 8, 2013

PUNXSUTAWNEY— The Lady Chucks seventh-and eighth-grade basketball team took to the floor again Tuesday against Curwensville.

As has been the story all year, the Lady Chucks won both games, as the seventh-grade team won 45-16, and the eighth-grade team won 34-5.

For one team to have a perfect record is impressive, but for both teams to have one, that just speaks volumes of the program and talent that Punxsy has.

When Punxsy traveled to Clarion-Limestone Friday night, it experienced a 30-minute weather delay due to lightning. For the C-L Lions, it would just be the calm before the storm, as the Chucks ran their way to a 28-12 win to improve their record to 3-3 on the season.

Leading the way for the Lady Chucks was Amber Ward.

Ward won her No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets over Brockway's Anna Brinkley.

"[Amber] Ward's serves were on target, which helped her cruise to an easy win," head coach Rose Graffius said.

Shenkle not satisfied despite 7-0 win

September 24, 2013

PUNXSUTAWNEY — At any level, scoring seven goals in a soccer match is a rarity.

It's a strategic game in which not a lot of goals are generally scored.

So, when Punxsy walked off the field with a 7-0 victory against Curwensville, everyone had to be satisfied, no?

"No. I pulled all of the starters out in the first half because they were playing flat," head coach Phil Shenkle said. "They had no life. I yanked them all out and put in several subs and junior varsity players. We have to be able to start a game with passion, and they haven't been able to do that yet."
