Solid Williamsport holds Punxsy softball in check

April 7, 2013

PUNXSUTAWNEY — A solid all-around softball team is always a challenge, but even more so when a team has limited outside and game time before the matchup.

Despite being on its way to being a good softball club, Punxsy could not match the quality Williamsport squad on Saturday and dropped a close game for the majority of the day, 10-1.

“That was a good quality team over there. They have offense with the pitching to go with it,” noted Lady Chucks coach Alan Pifer. “I told the girls from the start they had to share the hitting load."

HERSHEY — The wrestling competition does not come at any higher scholastic level than at the Pennsylvania state championships.

Punxsy’s state qualifying duo proved it belonged on the first day of the PIAA AAA Championships at Hershey.

On Thursday, Kaleb Young (126) rebounded from down a point with 40 seconds left for five points to pull out a 10-6 win over Boyertown’s Eddie Kriczky.

Young's elder teammate, Joel Bowers, produced a pair of solid efforts but came up just short in his run at states.
