Unblemished Clarion Bobcats bulldoze Chucks, 42-0

October 20, 2012

CLARION — On a night that started out a very promising one for the Punxsy Chucks, the unblemished Clarion Bobcats reversed the fortunes and bulldozed their way to a 42-0 shutout Friday night in Clarion.

The Bobcats (8-0) scored on their first five possessions, with a Cameron Kirkland 77-yard punt return for a touchdown coming in the final minute of the second quarter to power their cause.

“The real turning point of the night was the punt return to end the first half,” pointed out Chucks head coach Alan Nichol. “You took a good team and gave them momentum heading into the half.”

Chucks hope series road trend continues vs. Bobcats

October 19, 2012

CLARION — The road is never an easy place to play, especially when an undefeated foe is your host.

The task will be daunting for the Punxsy Chucks tonight when they face the 7-0 Clarion Bobcats at Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium.

The visiting Chucks, though, are hoping the trend of the short four-year football series between still fairly new Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference opponents continues to hold true. Over the past four years, the visiting team has come out on top, including the Bobcats’ 19-7 victory in Punxsy last fall.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — On normal rest, some foes are a tall task, but on the second of back-to-back days makes them all the tougher.

This was the case for the second time this season for the Punxsy boys' soccer team when facing rival DuBois. After shutting out Karns City last night, Punxsy did not have enough left to face DuBois 20 hours later in a 4-1 home loss on Thursday afternoon in Punxsutawney.

"It was a good hard game. We needed it and to have good competition at the end of the season," said Chucks coach Phil Shenkle.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — When a team cannot put many shots on goal, it is tough to win. The Punxsy boys' soccer defenders were very successful at keeping visiting Karns City to six shots to record a 2-0 shutout on Senior Night at Jack F. LaMarca Stadium.

"That was District-IX caliber defense on the field all night," proclaimed Chucks coach Phil Shenkle to his players after the game.

St. Marys floats past Punxsy girls' soccer

October 16, 2012

PUNXSUTAWNEY – With a cold wind blowing across the stadium, St. Marys lifted a ball over the outstretched hands of Punxsy girls' soccer goalie Allie Fye for what would be the game-winning goal, 3-2, with 15:05 left in the match.

CLEARFIELD — After facing each other in both the District IX singles and doubles championships, local rivals Punxsy and DuBois met on the girls' team tennis court on Monday afternoon in Clearfield.
