RIDGWAY — Mission accomplished! The Punxsy boys' cross country team set its season goal of reclaiming the District IX title and made it become a reality with a complete team effort on Saturday afternoon in Ridgway.

RIDGWAY — After falling just short the past two seasons, the Lady Chucks captured a convincing District IX cross country crown on Saturday in Ridgway.

Punxsy ran away with first by 28 points, 31-59 over runner-up Clearfield. The two-time defending champion Bradford was third with 64 points, while St. Marys completed the field with 67 points in fourth.

“I certainly thought we had an excellent chance of winning, but I surprised at the margin of victory,” admitted Punxsy coach George Wehrle. “The girls proved they were for sure the best team in the district this year.”

Karns City spoils Brookville football Senior Night

BROOKVILLE — The Karns City Gremlins spoiled the Brookville Raiders football team's Senior Night with a 45-20 win Friday night.

The Gremlins diverse running game gave the Raider defense fits all night, putting up 311 total rushing yards.

"They're fast and we're not," said Chris Dworek, Raider varsity coach. "We had some things open, but penalties hurt us more than usual, missed execution hurt us more than usual because they're tough. They're fast, and it's more painful when you play teams like that," he said.

Chucks seniors seek to wrap up Warriors in home FB finale

The Punxsy offensive line leads the way on a running play from earlier in the season. The Chucks will honor 14 seniors including Alex Bevak (23) and Brandon Snyder (76, pictured) before tonight's game against the Warriors of Moniteau with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Jack F. LaMarca Stadium.

Punxsy spikes DCC on Senior Night, coasts to D-IX playoffs

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Putting an exclamation mark at the end of the successful 2012 campaign, Punxsy spiked DuBois Central in the regular season finale. On Senior Night, the Lady Chucks coasted into the District IX playoffs over the Lady Cardinals, 3-0, with games of 25-9, 25-11 and 25-11.

"The team kept up their intensity well during this match and played well," commented Punxsy head coach Heather Good. "It was a good game for Shayla (Brink), Chelsea (Engeholm) and Sydney (Weaver) to go out on our home court."

Lady Chucks XC favored to capture D-IX title Saturday

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Being the pre-race favorite is a challenging place to be, but the Punxsy Lady Chucks cross country team will look to fulfill the hype. The Lady Chucks are favored to capture their first District IX crown since 2009 this Saturday morning in Ridgway.

The Punxsy girls head into the 2012 district championship meet with the inside track to gold based on their previous season results against the other three AA teams competing in the district — Bradford, Clearfield and Saint Marys.  

9th-grade Chucks put icing atop perfect football season

Punxsy ninth-grade defensive end Brandon Douthit and company take down a Curwensville runner on Wednesday night. The Chucks wrapped up an undefeated 8-0 season with a 33-14 win over the Golden Tide in Punxsutawney.

Redbank Valley outlasts Punxsy VB in marathon match

PUNXSUTAWNEY — In one of the most intense regular season volleyball matches of the season, Redbank Valley outlasted Punxsy, 18-16 in the fifth and deciding match. The Lady Chucks held a 2-1 game lead only to see the Lady Bulldogs take the next two for the victory Monday night in Punxsutawney.

Raiders' football outlasts Lions, 28-19

STRATTANVILLE ­— The Brookville Raiders proved Friday night that a win doesn't have to be glamorous in their 28-19 victory over the Clarion-Limestone Lions.

"An ugly win is just as good as a pretty win, and we were able to keep battling and score more points than them, plain and simple," said Chris Dworek, Raider varsity coach.

After a combined 24 penalty flags and nine turnovers between both teams, the Brookville Raiders were able to outlast the Lions, who were hot on the comeback trail.
