It was a cold and windy day, last Saturday for Gobbler’s Knob visitors, but that didn’t stop both out-of-towners and locals from passing through Barclay Square and checking out the numerous attractions.

One of the attractions this year was the Shaggy Mountain Petting Zoo — a traveling petting zoo from Central Pennsylvania.

This year, it brought a variety of animals to help celebrate Groundhog Day, including boer goats, purebred chickens and ducks.

Groundhog Day provided a variety of entertainment for all ages, and for those seeking some education, crafts and maybe even a cup of hot cocoa, a trip to the historical society did just the trick.

The Punxsutawney Area Historical & Genealogical Society entertained visiting children with the Groundhog Story Walk.

Story boards from a book about Groundhog Day were lined across the wall, allowing children to hear the story while walking from board to board.

After the story, they were able to create and then take home Groundhog Day crafts.

Tying the knot on Groundhog Day were Robert Delp and Ariel Pierce from Summerville, Pa., at Phil's Wedding Chapel at the Punxsutawney Borough Council Chambers in the Mahoning East Civic Center.

Members of the Inner Circle made a Groundhog Day appearance in the celebration tent at Barclay Square.

Visitors listened as Ron Ploucha, co-handler, and John Griffiths, co-handler, provided some history on Groundhog Day and Punxsy Phil.

They also took questions from audience members and provided some humorous answers.

After some photo sessions with Phil, more members of the Inner Circle came in for an autograph session.

Visitors and locals born on Groundhog Day were treated to a special celebration in the meeting room of the Punxsutawney Community Center.

Those who attended were asked their names and addresses, as many came from different states.

This lucky birthday girl, Addison Yanek, Punxsutawney, first-grade student at SS.C.D., didn’t have to travel very far at all, though!

Starting things off on a musical note was Ray Lantz and Company, who performed a number of jazz songs on Feb. 2. The concert was Lantz's way of thanking the town of Punxsutawney for the set of drums they had presented to him 50 years ago.
