Commission: Courthouse heating issues corrected

January 26, 2011

BROOKVILLE — After a recent plunge into frigid temperatures, the Jefferson County Commissioners reported Tuesday that there are no issues with the heating system at the courthouse.

Last January, the courthouse — then only two months removed from an opening ceremony following massive renovations — sustained major water damage when frozen water pipes burst.

The water pipes were affected because of a failure with the building’s heating system. Later, engineers reported that the system had not been properly balanced or commissioned, and errors occurred that led to the breaks.

CLARION — Maybe the lights should go out on the Chucks more often.

Nearly all of the Chucks wrestled their best match of the season, as from top to bottom, Tuesday was one of Punxsy's strongest showings this season.

Tuesday's match followed Saturday's 3-2 record at the Lewistown Duals. After that strong showing, Punxsy advanced right into an even better performance Tuesday.

Turnovers doom Lady Chucks in 40-26 loss

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Too many turnovers can often be the recipe for disaster for most basketball teams, and the Lady Chucks proved that theory to be true Tuesday night during a 40-26 loss at home to Ligonier Valley.

Whether it was the Lady Rams' full-court press — a defense they employed the entire game — or a trapping defense in their own end, Punxsy continually gave the basketball away to the tune of 29 turnovers.

The Lady Chucks kept throwing the ball away, and with each turnover went Punxsy's chances of winning.
