Stello to appear on KDKA Steelers trivia show

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Do you know how many touchdown passes Ben Roethlisberger threw in the AFC championship game against Baltimore, Jan. 18, 2009, off the top of your head? Well, local Pittsburgh Steelers trivia expert Mike Stello and several of his competitors know, and can recall the information in a lightning-quick manner.

Stello has competed in the McDonald's Steelers Trivia Challenge four different times, with his three-person teams having been selected from hundreds of participants each year.

Punxsy falls to Harborcreek in extra innings, 6-5

EDINBORO — Punxsy's 10- and 11-year old Little League Softball All-Stars opened its Section 1 tournament Thursday with a 6-5 loss in eight innings at the hands of Harborcreek in Edinboro.

Punxsy automatically won the District 10 bid, because there were no other 10- and 11-year old All-Star teams in the district.

The two teams combined for seven of the 11 total runs in the eighth inning alone.

Punxsy scored three runs in the top half of the eighth inning, but was unable to control the Harborcreek bats, allowing them to score four in the bottom half of the frame to win.

Dorothy J. DuPont, 78

Dorothy J. DuPont, 78, Cochranton, died Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie.

She was born March 15, 1933, in Franklin, the daughter of George and Eva Maria Hovis. 

Aug. 11, 1952, she married the Rev. C. Dale DuPont, who survives.
Mrs. DuPont was a graduate of Rocky Grove High School and a member of the Countryside Evangelical Church in Clarks Mills. 

She was a homemaker and supported her husband in his many church assignments. She also enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Norma Jean (Crissman) Fetters, 82

Norma Jean (Crissman) Fetters, 82, of Indiana, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Scenery Hill Manor.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m.

Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Brian Miller and the Rev. Arlene Schweitzer officiating.

Private interment will be made in Smicksburg Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Bence-Mihalcik Funeral Home, Indiana.

Mary R. Goyette, 93

Mary R. Goyette, 93, died Thursday, July 21, 2011.
She was born in Barnesboro and raised in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Antonio and Rose (Isaia) Goyette.

Miss Goyette worked in Pittsburgh for the National Supply Company and, for more than 20 years, for the State Department in Washington, D.C.

Surviving relatives include her loving nieces and nephews; Rose Marie Goyette, Nick and the late Janice Goyette, Jim and Chris Goyette, Sam Puleio and Bill and Regina Goyette.

Nancy J. Neale, 53

Nancy J. Neale, 53, Punxsutawney, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Mrs. Neale was born July 5, 1957, in New Martinsville, W.Va., the daughter of the late Albert and Lula (Slater) Summers.

Sept. 6, 1986, she married Jack E. Neale, who survives, of Punxsutawney.

Mrs. Neale loved reading and especially loved her cats.

She is a loving wife who will be greatly missed.

Punxsy bats stay hot in opener at Sectionals

CRANBERRY — Already leading 4-1, Punxsy's 10- and 11-year old All-Stars batted around in the fourth inning and scored seven runs to defeat McLane 11-1 in four innings in the opening round of the Section 1 tournament Thursday in Cranberry.

"We've been off for a whole week and were anxious to get going," manager Brad Gigliotti said. "We've been pounding the ball at batting practice and bringing in faster pitchers to get them used to it. It's paying off."

Punxsy pours on early and often, wins 33-3

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsy scored 10 runs in the home half of the first and fourth innings and batted around in all four innings en route to a 33-3 win over Curwensville in 15- and 16-year old VFW All-Star action Thursday night in Punxsutawney.

"We hit the ball when we had runners in scoring position," manager Mike Klingensmith said. "That's what we hadn't been doing, and I told the guys, 'We have got to continue to hit the ball when we have opportunities to score.'"

Miners fall to Grays, 5-4, despite strong start

BROOKVILLE — Despite coming out strong and taking a 4-1 lead, the Rossiter Miners lost to the Brookville Grays, 5-4, in Game 4 of the Federation League semi-finals Thursday.

Game 5 will be played at 6 p.m. Saturday in Rossiter.

The series has become quite a heated one, and it is now even at two games apiece.

Police arrest suspect in hit-and-run

FALLS CREEK — The person who police said struck a jogging Falls Creek woman and fled the scene Tuesday evening has been apprehended and placed in jail.

Wednesday, DuBois-based Pennsylvania State Police reported the arrest of Felicia Marie Steele, 48, Reynoldsville, after the incident occurred around 8:04 p.m. Tuesday on Route 950, about a mile south of Falls Creek, Washington Township.

Police said the jogger, Cindi A. Lingenfelter, 32, Falls Creek, was jogging south on Route 950 and was struck by Steele’s southbound 2003 GMC Sierra pick-up. Police said Steele then fled the scene.
