New Orleans took over sole possession of first place in the NFC South, as running back Mark Ingram continued his strong season as he ran for 100+ yards and 2 touchdowns. The New Orleans defense was able to stymy Carolina QB Cam Newton, who was 10-28 passing for 151 yards.

James H. Means, 91

James H. Means, 91, passed away Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at Golden Living in Clarion, Pa.

He and his twin brother, John W. Means, were born April 9, 1923, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late William B. and Ethel (Sutter) Means.

Jim was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army.

In 1947, he married Betty (Lingenfelter) Means. She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.

He was a co-owner, with his brothers, of Means Brothers Construction Company.

He was a member of the Valier United Methodist Church.

Alvin Lee Kendall, 81

November 4, 2014

Alvin Lee Kendall, 81, of Big Run, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at Jefferson Manor.

He was born on Oct. 10, 1933, in the Big Run area, a son of the late Don and Mary Olivette (Peace) Kendall.

On Dec. 24, 1957, he married the former Dorothy Ann Gray. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2007.

Alvin attended the Scotland Avenue Church of God. He was a man of great faith, sharing the love of God with whoever crossed his path. He also enjoyed reaching others through lay witness missions. He formerly taught Sunday School.

Gertrude A. Bruno, 78

November 4, 2014

Gertrude Ann Bruno, 78, of Home, Pa., gracefully entered the presence of the Lord, following a courageous struggle with renal failure at IRMC on Sunday, Nov 2, 2014, All Souls’ Day.

Born in 1936, in Ernest, Pa., to John and Anna (Zinzella) Liscinsky, Gert was a 1954 graduate of Indiana High School and Business College. A devoted Roman Catholic, she had been a member of churches in Ernest, Sagamore and Yatesboro. Gert strongly believed in the power of prayer and relied on her unwavering faith commitment.

Family was Gert’s priority.

Today is the day for those who have been counting down the minutes to the 2014 elections, and with polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., there's plenty of time for those with busy schedules to find their way to their respective polling locations.

Girls' elementary tournament tips off at PAHS

On Monday, the girls' elementary basketball tournament held annually at PAHS tipped off with four games — two 4th- and 5th-grade and two 6th-grade. Pictured here are Ryley Casaday and Elliott Ferrent fighting for the ball in the opening tip of the final game of the night.

The tournament continues Tuesday night with four more games, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Ruth E. (Wolfgang) Murray Williams, 95, of Shade Gap, Pa., fomerly of Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at the Woodland Retirement Community, Orbisonia.

She was born on Aug. 7, 1919, in Juneau, Indiana County, Pa., the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Etta (Perason) Wolfgang.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Murray and Kenneth Williams.
