County creates natural gas task force

BROOKVILLE — Hoping to put Jefferson County on the map, officials recently created a natural gas task force, with county Commissioner Jeff Pisarcik serving as chairman.

According to Director of Economic Development John Weible, the group is in the early stages of formation, but seeks to debut at the Pennsylvania Gas Expo 2011, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 21 at the IUP Kovalchick Complex in Indiana.

The purpose of the expo is to seek and bring businesses and the public together to educate and network about Marcellus Shale.

- 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. — Kids’ Projects in the Park.
- 11:30 to noon — Balloons The Clown.
- Noon to 1 p.m. — Grandpa Cratchet.
- 12:30 to 1 p.m. — Bubbling & Juggling.
- 1:30 to 2 p.m. — Balloons The Clown.
- 2:30 to 3 p.m. — Bubbling & Juggling.
- 3 to 4 p.m. — Grandpa Cratchet.

Robert Clair Campbell, 94

Robert Clair Campbell, 94, Brookville, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at McKinley Health Center in Brookville.

He was born Aug. 5, 1916, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Preston and Olive (Lewis) Campbell.

He married Elizabeth (Shaffer) Campbell, who preceded him in death in 1992.
Mr. Campbell was a manager at United Refinery.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.

Richard Wesley McKee, 59

July 7, 2011

Richard Wesley McKee, 59, Rochester Mills, died Thursday, July 7, 2011, at home.

He was born Aug. 12, 1951, in Tarentum, a son of the late Walter Gourley and Edith (Armer) McKee.

July 19, 1980, in Covode, he married Lois Wulfert McKee, who survives.

Mr. KcKee was a custodian at the Marion Center School District.

Punxsy battles back to win season finale over Indiana 12-8

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Things looked bleak for the Punxsy Fezell Enterprises Junior Legion baseball team when the Indiana Lions scored eight runs in the top of the fourth inning, but Punxsy bounced back with six runs of its own and held Indiana scoreless for the final three frames to win 12-8 Wednesday in Punxsutawney.

Dorothy M. Neal, 96

Dorothy M. Neal, 96, Punxsutawney (Frostburg), passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born March 8, 1915, in Coolspring, a daughter of the late Jesse and Cora (Huffman) Smith.

She was married to Harvey Neal, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Neal was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed quilting, gardening and time with her family.

Fresh Air Fund again welcomes youngsters from New York City

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Fifteen Fresh Air Fund kids — between six and 18 years of age — arrived at SS.C.D. Tuesday.

The boys and girls were welcomed with open arms from local host families for a fun-filled week or more mini-vacation.

Some of the youngsters left their New York City homes for the first time, while others returned to visit the same host family for consecutive summers.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Brodi Lowmaster's powerful pitching and John J Fisher Post 62 of Punxsutawney's lethal lineup were on display Tuesday night at Rich Kuntz Memorial Field in Punxsutawney.

Lowmaster struck out nine through five innings, and both Tyler Skerkavich and Braedon Pennington hit convincing home runs during Punxsy's 13-2 victory over the Clearfield Chiefs in the first round of the Jefferson County American Legion baseball playoffs.

Punxsy tops St. Marys, earns rematch with DuBois

PUNXSUTAWNEY — With Tuesday night's down- to-the-wire win over St. Marys, the Punxsy Little League baseball All-Stars earned another shot at DuBois.

Punxsy, which dropped to the losers' bracket with an 11-1 loss in five innings to DuBois last Sunday, scored nine runs during the first three innings and made some clutch plays defensively Tuesday to edge St. Marys, 10-8.
