Joline C. Pifer, 80, DuBois, formerly of Punxsutawney, died Monday, March 7, 2011, at Christ the King Manor, DuBois.
She was born Jan. 3, 1931, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Willis and Dorothy (Anderson) McGee.
Mrs. Pifer was a member of the Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church and was a 1949 graduate of Punxsutawney High School.
Vivian Claire Wright, 83, Glen Campbell, died Monday, March 7, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born April 11, 1927, a daughter of the late Edward and Alda (Stewart) Goss.
She was married to Gerald Wright, who preceded her in death March 14, 1997.
Mrs. Wright was the owner of Wright's Personal Care Home in Glen Campbell, and she was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Rossiter Fire Company.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Longtime teammates and Punxsy seniors Devon Luzell and Ian Weaver will be playing football together for at least four more years, and that college connection isn't much more than coincidental.
Luzell and Weaver fell in love with Division II Mercyhurst College in Erie, and that led to both of them becoming part of the Lakers' 2011 recruiting class in February.
"It was just a coincidence that we both liked it up there," Luzell said. "It's nice having Ian come up there with me, but I would have gone up there regardless. They were really the best opportunity."
Harold “Mike” Wesley Bish, 92, Negley, Ohio, formerly of New Galilee, died Saturday, March 5, 2011.
He was born Oct. 9, 1918, in Oak Ridge, a son of the late Guy W. Bish and Pearl (Davis) Bish.
PUNXSUTAWNEY —
Motorists are starting to get worried about the possibility that the price of gas could rise as high as $5 per gallon within the next few weeks throughout the area.
Punxsutawney gas prices skyrocketed 16 cents per gallon this week, said Bevi Powell, communications director for East Central AAA.
The average price for a gallon of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline has risen to $3.53 per gallon, she said.
Powell said it is hard to predict if the price of gas will actually rise to $5 per gallon.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Rotary Club has named Casey Lellock, son of Jeff and Marlene Lellock of Punxsutawney, as its Boy of the Month for February.
An honors student enrolled in the academic curriculum at Punxsutawney Area High School, Lellock is a member of the Robotics Club, Spanish Club and Student Government. He has also taken part in track and cross country.

ALTOONA — Not often does running factor into a wrestling match, but Punxsy senior Kody Young showed off his sprinting ability for a brief moment Saturday at the Northwest Region Class AAA Individual Wrestling Tournament.
With a spot in the 125-pound final and a berth in the PIAA tournament on the line, Young escaped the grasp of General McLane junior Tim Wheeling with fewer than five seconds left in the ultimate tiebreaker to earn a 4-3 victory. The win clinched Young's second trip to states and provided him with his school-record fourth regional medal.
ALTOONA — When Punxsy junior Seth Spack fell shy of a second-straight District IX Class AAA Individual Wrestling Championship Feb. 26 in Clarion, his family was disheartened.
But Spack quickly quelled their upset feelings, knowing that Saturday's Northwest Region Class AAA Tournament was yet to be decided and the district tournament wouldn't affect his ability to reach states.
"The whole last week, my family was down. But I don't get mad when I lose, because everybody loses," the ever-positive Spack said. "I told them, 'Don't worry, I'm winning regionals.'"
SHARON — Following one of the best weekends in the history of Brookville wrestling, expectations were high for the Northwest Region Class AA Individual Tournament Saturday in Sharon.
But the Raiders had some bad luck and took some tough losses and sent only one of their nine wrestlers in the tournament to states next weekend in Hershey.
BIG RUN — The legendary Big Run “Peeper Watcher” John London will appear on either Discovery Channel or Animal Planet at a date and time that is yet to be determined.
London said he was surprised when the TV crew that was taping Groundhog Day activities showed up on his doorstep to do an interview last month.
The spring peeper is a small treefrog that makes high-pitched peeping sounds and can be heard just after the spring thaw — hence this frog's name.
