PUNXSUTAWNEY â Just in time for its annual Radio Auction, the Punxsutawney Rotary Club has joined the Facebook revolution.
âFacebook has been something thatâs been kicked around in the club, on how to expand our presence in the community,â said Tom Chelgren, auction chairman, adding that the site is very proactive, in that if someone posts something, everyone who âlikesâ the page is immediately notified.
âRotary International has also been advocating having more of a presence on the Internet,â he said.
BROOKVILLE â Two county residents are asking Judge John Foradora to strike the names of two candidates for the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners from the May 17 primary election ballot.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â A two-vehicle accident at 8 a.m. Tuesday on Route 36, Bell Township, sent a Punxsutawney man to an Altoona hospital.
According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, a 2004 Dodge Neon driven by Tucker E. Smith, 22, Punxsutawney, was traveling north on Route 36 when his vehicle drifted into the southbound lane and struck a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Melanie R. Serian, 38, Punxsutawney, in the front left corner.
Jeffrey Scott Marshall Sr., 53, Punxsutawney, died Friday, March 11, 2011.Â
He was born Oct. 17, 1957, in Inglewood, Calif., a son of Gloria Jean West, who survives, and the late John Homer Marshall Jr.
Mr. Marshall was a graduate of LaQuinta High School in Fountain Valley, Calif. He then attended Golden West College and Cypress Junior College.
He worked as a creative director, most recently with IUP, teaching the Art Masters Program, specifically for art and theatre. He had previously taught art to elementary and high school Punxsutawney Christian School students.
Larry W. âRedâ Miller, 55, Juneau, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at his home.
He was born June 28, 1955, in Warren, Ohio, a son of the late Theo C. and Lornabelle (Hollen) Miller of Mahaffey.
Mr. Miller was employed by Hettager Drilling Company.
He enjoyed being with his family as they trapped and hunted together. Many will remember him as âRed,â in his L88 Camero racing at Clearfield Speedway.

CLARION â Brookville's two basketball programs ran into the bully on the block in the first round of the PIAA Class AA playoffs and neither team could come away with a win.
The WPIAL regularly beats up on District IX in the state playoffs. The Brookville boys' team (22-3) fell to the WPIAL fifth-seed Jeannette (16-7) 68-57 at Clarion Saturday, while the Lady Raiders (17-8) lost to WPIAL third-seed Bishop Canevin (21-5), 60-39.
Brookville isn't alone, as most District IX teams struggled in the state playoffs against Pittsburgh area schools.
ERIE â A Punxsutawney Area High School graduate playing baseball at Mercyhurst College in Erie recently earned two awards.
Senior Nick Gillung, a member of PAHS' 2007 state title-winning team, earned the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division Pitcher of the Week honor and was one of the Louisville Sluggers Players of the Week after a 15-strikeout game against Palm Beach Atlantic March 3 in Florida.
The left-handed pitcher from Worthville improved to 3-0 on the season after the double-digit strikeout performance.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â The Punxsy seventh-grade boys' basketball team finished the season on a three-game winning streak, including a pair of double-digit victories that rounded-out the squad's 13-7 year.
Punxsy concluded the season with a 35-23 win at home Feb. 18. Prior to that, the Chucks won by 16 points at Clearfield. Punxsy first-year coach Darren Sherry was happy with how his squad progressed in its first junior-high year together.
Andrew Vincent Petroff, 82, Sewickley, died Saturday, March 12, 2011.Â
He was born Nov. 3, 1928, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Michael and Julia (Jurcenko) Petroff.
He was married to his wife of 31 years, Elizabeth âBettyâ (Midock) Petroff, who preceded him in death.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War.
Wilda M. (Raymer) Prushnok Pfeil, 83, Indiana, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at the Indiana Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
A daughter of the late Frank and Hazel Raymer, she was born Jan. 30, 1928, in Emeigh.
She was first married to her husband of 41 years, Raymond John Prushnok, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Prushnok Pfeil was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as a dedicated Christian and servant of the Lord. She had many friends and enjoyed corresponding with them frequently.
