“We felt as a group we were a top-four team, possibly a top-three team,” Brookville head coach Dave Klepfer said. “We went down there, and the competition was great. To come away with fourth place, I think everybody involved was pretty happy with that.”

PASD officials navigating budget crunch

February 19, 2012

PUNXSUTAWNEY — When Gov. Tom Corbett said last year he was going to make some major cuts in the amount of funding that school districts received, he wasn't bluffing.

Public schools, which had to absorb about $860 million in spending cuts for the 2011-12 school year, will see their basic subsidies rise about $45 million to $5.4 billion, but could lose $100 million in grants that helped fund full-day kindergarten and other programs, such as dual enrollment.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Lady Chucks knew what they had in store for them when the Lady Owls of Bradford visited Friday night: An undefeated team seeking to end it's season 22-0.

Chucks are No. 1 seed, but Owls claim sweep, mental edge for playoffs

February 18, 2012

BRADFORD — Entering Friday night's contest with the Bradford Owls, Punxsy had the advantage of already knowing it was the No. 1 seed entering the District IX playoffs.

But the Owls had the advantage of picking up a road win at Punxsy Jan. 20, and Friday, Bradford made it a season sweep, setting up an interesting potential D-IX Title Game Mar. 3 at Clarion University with a 53-38 win over the Chucks.

But Punxsy has a bye in the playoffs and won't play again until the championship game, and the Owls have to defeat Clearfield to earn the right for the rematch.
