Albert Dan Seger, 81

September 16, 2014

Albert Dan Seger, a longtime resident of the town of Niagara, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at home, while receiving care from Niagara Hospice. He was 81. He was born in Banks Township, Indiana County, Pa., on June 1, 1933, the son of Oren Lee and Kiziah (Brunner) Seger.

H. Robert Bickerstaff, 76

H. Robert Bickerstaff, “Chaplain Bob,” ascended to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sept. 15, 2014, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born Aug. 21, 1938 in Jeanette, Pa., to Harry and Hazel Bickerstaff, he married Sally Sexton on Feb. 2, 1963 in Cochranton, Pa.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sally; three children, Jana Bickerstaff of

Constitution Week kicks off today!

Punxsutawney Mayor Richard Alexander proclaimed the week of Sept. 17 through Sept. 23 as "National Constitution Week" in Punxsutawney. Constitution Week was initiated by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Boys' cross country sweep part of big day for Punxsy athletics

Punxsy's boys' cross country (led by Eric Ingros, pictured here) led the Chucks and Lady Chucks in a busy day of athletics with a pair of wins over Brookville and Bradford.

Rita Mae Richardson, 85

September 15, 2014

Rita Mae Richardson, 85, of Punxsutawney, passed away Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Mrs. Richardson was born April 21, 1929, in DuBois, a daughter of the late Fred and Ida (Johnston) Wells.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Richardson.
Rita was a member of the Canoe Ridge Church of God.

She loved polka, and was a member of the Polka Club. She also loved bowling, sewing, dancing and her beloved dog “Daisy Mae.”

Evelyn K. Haines, 95

Evelyn K. Haines, 95, of Punxsutawney, passed away Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Mrs. Haines was born Dec. 4, 1918, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Jacob and Sadie (Wolfe) Kromer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron B. Haines, on Dec. 23, 1981. They were married Oct. 31, 1941.

CHUCKS DOMINANT IN ROUTE 36 RIVALRY

The Punxsutawney Chucks re-claimed the Route 36 Rivalry trophy on Friday night with a 47-6 victory over the Brookville Raiders.

Punxsy was dominant on both sides of the ball, making for a long night for the Raiders.

Busy home night highlighted by volleyball win; Route 36 Rivalry tonight

Thursday was a busy day in PAHS sports action, with the volleyball team hosting the Curwensville Lady Tide as the night cap. Punxsy won in straight sets to keep its roll going.

Friday's edition of The Spirit features the recaps from Thursdays games in addition to highlights from AJ Parise game from last weekend. It also has a preview for tonight's Route 36 Rivalry football game between the Chucks and Brookville.

The 7 p.m. contest is the only game on the schedule for the Chucks.

Punxsy's boys' golf squad fell to a tough opponent in Indiana on Wednesday, while the girls took to the road and earned a forfeit win over Ridgway.
