Police investigating death of female, 25

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsutawney Borough Police and Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police are continuing to investigate the death a Punxsutawney woman that occurred on South Gilpin Street in Punxsutawney on Thursday.

Borough Police said there was a separate incident that occurred on Thursday in the Groundhog Plaza parking lot, where a female was
found unconscious.

Clarion County Fair coming this way

CLARION COUNTY — While Jefferson County's fair festivities wind down with a full schedule of events Saturday evening, our neighboring county — Clarion — is gearing up for its own full schedule at the Clarion County Fair, which opens Sunday, and Clarion Fair Secretary Julie Evans and the rest of the officers and board of directors are inviting all to take part in the event and enjoy themselves.

All-Stars off & running ... to States!

Punxsy’s Minor League Softball All-Stars were playing in their second winner-take-all championship game on Friday night — this time at the Sectional Tournament hosted in Punxsutawney.

And once again, Punxsy ran away from the decisive game a champion, defeating Union City 3-1.

Pictured here are the members of the team carrying their Section 1 championship banner on the traditional victory lap.

With the win, the girls have advanced to the state tournament, which will begin on Thursday in Greensburg.

Brittany Nicole Burnette, 25

Brittany Nicole Burnette, 25, died Thursday, July 17, 2014.

She is survived by her children, Gabbryella L. Jones of Punxsutawney and Harlen T. Baker; her mother, Judith D. Jones of Punxsutawney; a sister, Amber J. Jones (Kenny Ball Jr.); a brother, Cory D. Burnette; two nephews, Ian M. Jones and Kameron L. Corvin; a niece, Jaylin D. Corvin; aunts and uncles Sharon and Mike Sanner, Raymond D. Jones, Chrissy Yost, Matthew W. Jones and Kathy Jones; and her maternal grandparents, Tom and Joy Preston.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ray and Ruth Burnette.

Donald A. Brady, 59

Donald A. Brady, 59, of Smicksburg, passed away with his family by his side, Thursday, July 17, 2014, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in 1954 to Wendell C. and Mildred (Elkin) Brady in Indiana.

He was a member of Plumville Presbyterian Church, Plumville.

Don had such a special way of making people feel good. He had more friends than you could ever count and a family who meant the world to him.

He was a blessing to so many people, and he will be forever missed.

Mary Lou Plyler Shick, 79

Mary Lou Plyler Shick, of Brookville, passed peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the age of 79.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Alden Plyler and Mary Barbara Lahr Plyler; her brother, Roger Plyer; her husbands, Francis D. Raybuck and Bernard W. Shick; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by her sister, Rose Slike; and nine children, Randy Raybuck, Lynne Shaffer, Pam Yates, Sandy Raybuck, Connie Moore, John Shick, Theresa Shick, Bill Shick and Elizabeth McManigle.

Shed destroyed in Thursday fire

Just after 9 p.m. on Thursday evening, local fire crews were called into action for a working shed fire near 411 Main St. in Anita.

Crews contained the fire to the shed, but it was completely destroyed.

No further details were immediately available.
