PUNXSUTAWNEY â In an afternoon which felt more like late October than mid May, the Punxsy softball team saw one of its two toughest innings of the season on Monday.
Trailing 3-2, the visiting Lady Tigers of Hollidaysburg capitalized on three Punxsy errors and added some hard hits at the plate to score 10 times to spoil "Senior Day" by a 14-4 final score.
"We lengthened it (the inning) for them. They hit the ball hard as well," noted Lady Chucks' head coach Alan Pifer. "They capitalized on everything."
This recycling site in Sportsburg is slated to close July 1.
Donna Cooper, solid waste/recycling coordinator for the Jefferson County Solid Waste Authority, announced the closure last week at the Young Township supervisorsâ meeting.

Foster parents throughout Jefferson County were recognized Monday night at the Foster Parent Appreciation Dinner held at the Anchor Inn in Punxsy.
It's the season of giving back to those who help with the education system.
Jeff Kuntz, chairperson of the Community Focus Committee, presented checks to eight individuals, who accepted them on behalf of the organizations they represent.
Checks are distributed through the Punxsutawney Education System several times a year and give money to organizations from which students benefit.
Ronald E. (Ronnie) Watkins, 69, of Conneaut Lake, went to be with his Lord and Savior on his birthday, May 13, 2013, at the Marquette Hospice House.
He was born in Meadville, a son of Merle R. and Bessie K. Adams Watkins.
He married Sandra (Sandi) Saul on Sept. 16, 1995, at Watson Run Church of God, and she survives.
He worked for many years in steel fabrication and retired as a foreman at Excalibur Machine Co.
He was a graduate of Meadville High School and was a member of Watson Run Church of God.
Leila I. Smith, 81, Punxsutawney, died Monday, May 13, 2013, at Nelsonâs Golden Years Personal Care Home in DuBois.
She was born Dec. 20, 1931, in Corbettown, Pa., a daughter of the late Homer and Irene (Miller) Geist.
She married Joseph M. Smith on March 22, 1951.
He preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1971.
She was Methodist by faith.
She enjoyed baking and cooking, quilting and spending time with family.
She was a homemaker and worked as a nurseâs aide for two nursing homes.

CHEST TOWNSHIP â Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State police reported that 60 large trout â many of which were to be donated to a childrenâs fishing derby â were stolen between May 4 and May 5 from the Susquehanna Valley Rod & Gun Club, at a fish hatchery on Holes Road in Clearfield County.
Police said the total loss is estimated at $1,800.

Following a successful fundraiser event, Sherry Huber (left), shift manager at Punxsy McDonaldâs, and Karen Love, Punxsy McDonaldâs general manager, pack up donations of food and personal care items to send to troops stationed overseas.
A drawing for the winners of two freezers full of meat was held Wednesday at Lowmaster and Warden in Punxsutawney.
The winners are: Paul Lieberum of St. Petersburg, Pa., and Richard Grecco of Brockway (not pictured).
The proceeds benefit VFW No. 2076 in Punxsutawney.
