Peter David John Medley, 60

Peter David John Medley, 60, of Greensburg, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg.

He was born Sept. 8, 1954, in Melbourne, Australia, the son of the late David and Ruth (Crane) Medley.

He had been employed by NASA. He was a member of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greensburg, and was a veteran of the Air Force.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Christina Medley.

13th annual Punxsy Pizza & Prevention raises $43,000 for Punxsutawney Fire Department

The 13th Annual Punxsy Pizza & Prevention was held on Saturday at Punxsy Pizza. One of the highlights of this year’s event was a visit from Punxsutawney’s favorite son, Devin Mesoraco, catcher for the Cincinnati Reds Major League Baseball team.

Frank A. Palmerino, 75

Punxsutawney native Frank A. Palmerino, 75, of Riverside, California, passed away on Sept. 28, 2014 in Riverside, California.

He was the son of Frank and Jessie (Carlino) Palmerino.

He is survived by his companion of 43 years, Ted McKinney of Riverside, California; three sisters, Adelaide Palmerino, Roseanne Fallara and Lucy Ivens, all of Punxsutawney; and two brothers, James Palmerino and Alfred Palmerino of Fremont, California.

PAHS crowns Homecoming Queen, Princess

The 2014 PAHS Homecoming Queen and Princess, as voted by this year’s senior class, were crowned during halftime of Friday’s varsity football game against A-C Valley. This year’s court included (top photo, from left) Hunter Smith with escort Ruben Taylor; Emily Schall with escort Zane Dilts; Amber Ward with escort Marshall Richardson; Jensen Constantino with escort Lucas Mennetti; Anna Horner with escort Trenton Gaston; and Allison Fye with escort Jerad Meterko. Constantino was crowned Homecoming Queen, and Ward was crowned Princess.

Brookville football game postponed as result of bomb threat

Sources have reported that, due to a bomb threat at the school today, the football game scheduled at Brookville High School tonight against Keystone has been postponed until 1 p.m. tomorrow.

D9sports.com reported the news Friday afternoon, citing information from school officials.

Lighting up the Night: Homecoming Queen to be crowned tonight

The senior class at PAHS recently selected six senior girls to be on the Homecoming Queen’s Court. This year’s court includes Jensen Constantino, Allison Fye, Anna Horner, Emily Schall, Hunter Smith and Amber Ward.

The girls with the highest and second-highest vote counts will be crowned queen and princess at tonight's Homecoming football game against A-C Valley.

Ida Catherine Doverspike Wolfgang, 90

October 2, 2014

Ida Catherine Doverspike Wolfgang, 90, died on Sept. 27, 2014, at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown, Maryland. 

Born May 31, 1924, in Mt. Tabor, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Russell Doverspike and Martha Smith Doverspike.

On May 24, 1947, Ida married Jay R. Wolfgang. They were married for 58 years until his death in 2005.

She lived in Carmichaels, Pa., from 1950 on and moved to Ringgold in 1978, where she lived until 2011, when she became a resident of St. Mary’s Nursing Center.

James A. Johns, 34

October 2, 2014

James A. Johns, 34, passed away Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, at Penn Highlands Health Care in DuBois.

Born June 10, 1980, James was the son of Howard E. Johns and Janice F. (Campbell) Barrett. They survive.

Formerly, James worked in a pressed metal factory. He enjoyed mechanical work, computers and fixing trucks. He was a member of Cowboy Church in Florida.
