BROOKVILLE — The Brookville boys' basketball team is ready to get back to business after having a longer than expected break from basketball.
After having eight days off since clinching a share of the District IX League title last Wednesday, the top-seeded Raiders (20-2, 8-2 District IX League) will play fourth-seeded Brockway (12-10, 2-4 AML South) at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the semifinals of the District IX Class AA playoffs at Clarion University
Brookville beat Brockway twice this season, a 57-42 win to open the season Dec. 10 and a 67-53 win Dec. 30.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Juniors Logan Weaver and Daniel Triponey are playing like one of the best scoring guard duos in District IX, and their ability to fill up the stat sheet this season doesn't surprise Punxsy head coach Dirk Neal.
Back when Weaver and Triponey started for the seventh-grade team in 2006-2007, Neal, then Punxsy's junior-varsity coach, noticed just how talented they were.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsy junior-varsity boys' basketball team won eight of its final 10 games to complete the season with a 12-9 record last Friday.
The Chucks lost their final game — 45-32 to Bradford — but had won eight of nine games entering that matchup after they started the season 4-7.
The Chucks began to erase the rough start once they became more comfortable as a team.
BRADFORD — A young Punxsy junior-varsity girls' basketball team that lacked depth finished the season with a 10-10 record last Friday following a 30-23 loss in Bradford.
The Lady Chucks started 5-8, but were able to win five of their next six games to clinch a 10-win season before closing the year with a defeat at the Lady Owls.
EDINBORO — A.J. Meterko led all Punxsy indoor runners with an individual eighth place finish in the 800-meter run at the Tri-State Track and Field Association Championships Saturday at Edinboro.
Meterko finished with a time of 2:04.68.
He qualified for the TSCTA State Championship meet at State College Feb. 26.
Other place winners for the Chucks included:
Boys' 4x800 relay— Meterko, Tom Wagner, Nathan Ward and Luke Fugate, 9:01.44, ninth place.
Girls' Distance Medley relay— Shannon Byerely, Alexis Young, Lauren McGarvey an Juliann Boddorf, 13:49.54, sixth place.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Juniors Logan Weaver and Daniel Triponey played like the best guard combo in the district, and the Chucks handled Bradford in a District IX Class AAA Semifinals preview Friday night, 61-42.
Weaver and Triponey combined for 48 points, as the Chucks evened the season series with Bradford by winning Friday. The two teams will meet Thursday in Punxsutawney in the rubber match for the first round of district playoffs with a trip to the title game on the line.
BRADFORD — The Punxsy girls' basketball team may not be going to the playoffs, but it finished the 2010-2011 season strong.
Punxsy completed the season with a three-win week once it defeated Bradford Friday night, 48-30.
The Lady Chucks (7-15) won't enter the playoffs this year, but they swept the Lady Owls (12-10), who will meet St. Marys in the District IX Class AAA title game. St. Marys and Kayla Hoohuli are in search of a fourth-straight crown.
DUBOIS — Four-straight late victories that totaled 19 team points allowed DuBois to earn a 41-34 victory over the Punxsy wrestling team Thursday night.
The Chucks (12-12) were riding high after Tyler Titus' upset victory by fall at 215 pounds. They jumped ahead 28-22 with that win, but couldn't score again until Kody Young won by forfeit during the final bout of the night.
Unlike last week, when the Chucks received two big wins from freshmen Josh Schuckers and Joel Bowers to beat St. Marys, 34-30, the 103- and 112-pounders were unable to rise up once again.
BROOKVILLE — It was clear after Brookville's Brady Mineweaser upset Redbank Valley's Mitch Blose, helping the Raiders earn a 40-21 win over the Bulldogs Thursday night, that Mineweaser has bigger goals in mind.
He wants, more than anything else, another chance to wrestle Ridgway's Cody Stahl at the District IX Class AA tournament next weekend. Stahl pinned Mineweaser in the third period of their match in the District IX Class AA Team Championship to give the Elkers a 32-29 win.
