July 18, 2013

CORRY — Make it two! That's two banners for the 9- and 10-year-old softball All-Star team and two Punxsy teams who this season made it to the state level in the Little League All-Star tournaments.

Thursday night, Punxsy picked up a 13-3, four-inning victory over Mid-East/Titusville, which it had defeated in the opening round in a 2-1 contest, to claim the Section 1 title and earn a berth to States — which will be held next week in Thorndale, Pa.

And getting better by the day: Punxsy MLSB All-Stars earn 'king seed,' valuable night off

July 16, 2013

CORRY — The competition just gets steeper as a team progresses through the Little League All-Star tournament, but as was the case with the 11- and 12-year-old softball All-Stars this year, it seems Punxsy's squads just keep getting stronger, as well, as the 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars downed a tough Union City team in the Section 1 winners' bracket final by a score of 10-2 Wednesday to earn an always-important day off and advance to the finals.

While Punxsy put up 10 runs, Punxsy head coach Brad Gigliotti said it was the defense that stood out the most throughout the game.

'Comeback Kids': Minor SB All-Stars stay the course

July 4, 2013

PUNXSUTAWNEY — It was a pitchers' duel in Punxsutawney on Wednesday evening, and if it wasn't for some late action by the Punxsy's bats in the 9- and 10-year-old softball All-Stars game, St. Marys' Brianna Grotzinger would have come out on top. But thanks to a three-run fifth, Punxsy's Kendal Johnston, who pitched a complete game for the home team, earned the win in the 3-1 contest.

After the game, Punxsy head coach Brad Gigliotti was especially proud of his team's resiliency, as the players battled right to the end.
