BRADFORD â When playing a good team, you cannot expect to win by committing key turnovers for a long stretch of time in a game, such as for a whole eight-minute quarter.
After leading 15-10, the Punxsy girlsâ basketball tide turned after the first quarter Friday night.
The defending District IX champion Bradford took the second quarter turnovers and converted them into points before posting a 57-43 final score at the end of the night over Punxsy in Bradford.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â In an intense preview of the District IX AAA championship game in two weeks, the home Chucks held serve on Friday night.
With a stroke of irony, Punxsy proved to be a second-half and fourth-quarter team to hit for 50 points on head coach Dirk Nealâs 50th birthday in besting Bradford, 50-46, in Punxsutawney.
âIt was beautiful,â smiled the birthday-celebrating Chucks coach. âThe kids responded just like we asked. Bradford is a scrappy team. Itâs getting to be a real rivalry between the two schools 90 miles apart.â
