INDIANA — When your team is outscored by 14 points in the opening 5:23 of the game, it is a hard hill to climb to come back against a talented foe.
A resilient Punxsy boys' basketball team almost climbed to the top of the high comeback mountain on Wednesday night. The Chucks battled back to within four points, 40-36, with four minutes but could not continue the climb.
Punxsy misfired on its last five shots and turned the ball over on the other possession, as Indiana (8-1) netted eight of the last nine points of the contest for the 48-37 victory.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — After a close first half, the Punxsy eighth graders took charge in the second half to post their third victory of the season.
The junior Chucks outscored the Cardinals of DuBois Central Catholic 28-13 in the latter two frames for their 43-26 win.
"We play hard. We come to practice and play hard every day," said Punxsy coach Glenn Good.
"We are learning what we are supposed to do on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. We rebound well on both ends every game."
The Punxsy scoring was a team effort, led by Patrick Fedigan's eight points.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The improvement continues to be seen in the youngest of the middle school boys' basketball teams. Punxsy secured its third win of the season by riding a first-half lead to a 33-22 victory over DuBois Central Catholic on Wednesday afternoon.
"We won and showed a marked improvement, especially on the fundamentals," commented Chucks' coach Darren Sherry.
