DUBOIS â The Brockway Rovers deep threats, combined with a strong fourth quarter from Clay Anderson, was too much for the Raiders to handle in their 56-40 loss in the consolation game at the DuBois Holiday tournament Saturday.
The Raiders faced the Rovers for the second time Saturday and gave them a much stronger effort than their 69-24 loss in the championship game of the Brookville tip-off tournament on Dec. 8.
DUBOIS â In what was a close game for most of the contest, the DuBois Beavers were able to pull away in the fourth quarter to best Brookville, 57-42, in the opening round of the Holiday tournament Friday night.
"We turned the ball over a little bit and we got a little impatient at times against their press and forced some things... I thought our transition defense hurt us even more than that with (not) getting back defensively and giving up a couple freebies," said Kevin Wolfe, Raiders varsity coach.

INDIANA â Every child has one big dream job that gives them something to work toward, and for Harlem Globetrotters rookie Ariel "Mighty" Mitchell, her dream is coming true this week as her first season as a professional basketball player kicks off, including a trip to Indiana's Kovalchick Complex tonight.
Mighty said that for her, it's always been a dream to play professionally, but she's also pleased to have the opportunity to change lives and inspire young girls, as well.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â After challenging weather made for first day schedule changes, Punxsy proved to be its own difficult host to two opponents to take away a night sweep on the first night of the Carl A. Truance Holiday Classic.
Trailing 35-32 with 4:06 left in the game, the Lady Chucks netted the final six points of the contest and scratched out a 38-35 girls victory over the Lady Stingers of Marion Center.

CLEARFIELD â Just as the weather was rainy outside Thursday night, the tough forecast inside the Clearfield High School gymnasium turned out to be the case.
The Punxsy wrestlers claimed only three victories against a veteran Clearfield squad to fall by a 63-12 score.
"Overall in the match, nothing went our way," explained Chucks head coach Eric Eddy. "You have nights like this, and I told the kids it is better to have it now than later (in the season). We were just outwrestled âštonight."
PUNXSUTAWNEY â It may have taken most of the first quarter to come to life, but by midway through the second half, the Chucks boys' basketball team was on cruise control Thursday night, and after a Devin Nicholson basket five minutes into the game to give Punxsy the 6-5 lead, the Chucks would never trail again, as they flew past visiting Harmony, 54-31, in Punxsutawney.
The Chucks received an early boost off their bench from junior Michael Klingensmith, who finished with a season-best 10 points to go with four assists, six rebounds and a steal.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â Leading for only the second time all night with 1:16 left in the game, Punxsy played stifling defense for the next 1:08 but it turned out to not be enough, as DuBois Central Catholicâs Aundrea Snyder took advantage of a late home defensive breakdown to drive the right baseline for a layup with approximately 7.6 seconds to regain the lead for her team, 34-33 Wednesday night in Punxsutawney.
âDCC set a screen, and we didnât jump out and get to jump it, and the girl made a nice shot,â said Lady Chucks coach Randy Reitz.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â Improvement across the board. The junior Chucks' wrestlers recorded four falls and five wins in nine matches Tuesday afternoon against the Mountain Lions of Altoona in Punxsutawney.
Altoona claimed the match, 68-33, as Punxsy gave the visiting squad eight forfeits on the day.
"We saw a lot of improvement tonight compared to last week," noted Punxsy head coach Bill Burke. "We ended up giving them eight forfeits, and they gave only one back so we surrendered a total of 42 points due to our numbers."

CLEARFIELD â Winning can either be exciting and high scoring or lower scoring and methodical.
After racing past rival Brookville last Thursday, Punxsy grinded out a road victory, 39-29, over Clearfield on Monday night in Clearfield.
âIt was a grind-out game. We didnât shoot the ball well from the perimeter but we played very good defense and had very good ball pressure,â noted Lady Chucks coach Randy Reitz. âWe also did a very nice job on Clearfieldâs big girls.â
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Coming out trailing from the intermission, Punxsy turned up the second-half defensive heat to give Homer Center its first loss of the season, 64-60, Monday night in Punxsutawney.
âOur defense really is improving. We forced some key turnovers on their (Homer Center) end,â pointed out Punxsy coach Dirk Neal. âWe hope this win can carry us a long way. It was a great team effort.â
