ST. MARYS — After coming back from a game down less than two days prior, the Punxsy volleyball team saw its fortunes reverse on Saturday afternoon in the PIAA sub-regional playoffs in St. Marys.
After capturing wins in the first and third sets, the Lady Chucks found themselves with a 2-1 lead over the Eagles of Obama Academy.
The emotional toll, travel and short amount of down time caught up with the Punxsy roster as Obama Academy prevailed 25-19 in game four before winning the fifth contest and match, 15-10.
CLARION — The Brookville Raiders' regular season ended with a 34-6 loss to the Clarion Bobcats Friday at Memorial Stadium on a snowy and dreary night. The Bobcats' (10-0) balanced scoring, and the Raiders (6-4) five turnovers kept Brookville from contending with the Clarion squad.
"Guys are trying too hard and aren't tucking the ball in, and just aren't being careful with the ball," said Chris Dworek, Raiders varsity coach. "Turnovers are killer against anybody, especially a good team," he added.

LOYSBURG – With the changing of quarters, so went the changing of the Punxsy Chucks' football fortunes on Friday night. ST. MARYS — Every team dreams and sets goals for its seasons. The Lady Chucks volleyball team was able to fulfill its dream of District IX gold in dramatic fashion Thursday night at St. Marys High School.
Trailing by a game, Punxsy came together to take game four and outlasted Bradford, 18-16, in the match-deciding set to capture the program's seventh title in eight years.
"Everyone on this team contributed to this win tonight. It feels like a dream to bring the District Championship plaque back to Punxsutawney," exclaimed the winning head coach Heather Good.

DuBOIS — On a rainy Halloween night, Bradford's Cody Bly turned out to be no treat for the Punxsy boys' soccer team. Bly found the net three times to boot the Owls past the Chucks to claim the District IX title, 3-1.
"We were outplayed. Bradford was the better team tonight," explained Chucks head coach Phil Shenkle. "We did a lot of things very well, but Bradford was just better in the game."
The night started off rough for Punxsy, especially for its goalkeeper Tristan Acre. The junior not only hurt his knee in the pregame warmups but was forced to leave the game three minutes in.
