DUBOIS — Both the boys' and girls' golf squads from Punxsutawney made the trip Wednesday morning to participate in the annual DuBois Area High School Tournament, which was played on the Silver Course at Treasure Lake, and both teams had fair showings at the tournament with the boys taking fifth overall and the girls placing ninth.
On the boys' side, Hollidaysburg hit the clubhouse with the lowest score, shooting a 334 as a team, and Punxsy was just 20 strokes behind in fifth overall.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — With near perfect weather to run, the Punxsy girls' cross country team took advantage and recorded 10 seasonal or career bests on the day to defeat both Elk County and Saint Marys on their home course yesterday afternoon. Â
Elk County fell 25-30 to the Punxsy harriers, despite taking the top two places in the meet with the home team taking the next five places to earn the victory. Against Saint Marys, the Punxsy girls took places two through six on their way to a 20-40 victory. DuBois Central also competed but did not field a full team.
PUNXSUTAWNEY – In what was suppose to be a three-man race to the finish, Punxsy’s Bo Dinger took control early and won the boys' cross country double dual meet going away by 36 seconds to help his team sweep past both Elk County Catholic and St. Marys.
Dinger widened his lead for the Chucks as the race went on and turned in what amounted to a dominating performance over ECC’s Ryan Detsch and St. Marys’ Alec Foster. The Punxsy junior ran across the finish line in 17:13, 36 seconds better than Detsch (17:49) and 45 seconds over Foster (17:58).
