July 5, 2012

PUNXSUTAWNEY — With the Little League All-Stars format having teams in age brackets nine- and 10-year olds, 10- and 11- and 11- and 12-year-olds, many of the same teams see each other from year to year.

That was the case Thursday night when Punxsy's 10- and 11-year-old baseball squad met DuBois' — the defending District X and Section I Champion from last year's nine- and 10-year-old tournament, and Punxsy knew exactly what it was in for.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — On top of Punxsy's team accolades with both the baseball and softball teams earning the Northern Allegany League Large School divisional championships, six Punxsy players were named to the Large School Division All-Stars — with three coming from PAHS's baseball team and three from the softball team.

One player in particular — junior Ty Zimmerman — was even named the division's Player of the Year. St. Marys' Rachel Ginther was named the softball Player of the Year.
